Regulatory Framework

Mobile phone base stations are constructed and maintained as part of telecommunications carriers’ networks. Networks are made up of different types of infrastructure and regulations are in place to ensure that networks are located and constructed according to certain requirements.

Telecommunications facilities, such as mobile phone base stations,are primarily regulated under Commonwealth law. These regulations are designed to balance the need to facilitate the rapid and cost effective provision of essential telecommunications infrastructure with environmental considerations and community expectations.
